Stanford vs. Northwestern Odds
EVANSTON, IL (TheSpread) – The Northwestern Wildcats hope to open the season with an upset win at home when the Wildcats host No. 21 Stanford at Noon ET on ESPN.
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Stanford is the road favorite in this game, as the Cardinal are getting odds of -12 points against the Wildcats. The over/under total for the contest has yet to be set. These two teams last met in 1994 with the two playing to a 41-41 tie at Northwestern.
Stanford was 8-5 last season and 5-4 in the Pac-12, which was a down year considering the Cardinal’s recent success. Stanford was 7-6 against the spread in 2014 while hitting the under in 9 of 12 lined totals. David Shaw enters his fifth season as head coach of Stanford. He is 42-12 in his four seasons, but Stanford’s win total has declined each of the last two seasons. Shaw is hoping having a senior leader like Kevin Hogan under center will lead to success. Hogan has started the last two seasons for Stanford and has 48 touchdown passes in his career with 21 interceptions.
Northwestern had a disappointing 2013, going 5-7 overall and 3-5 in the Big Ten. The Wildcats were 5-7 against the spread while hitting the under in 6 of 11 lined totals. Pat Fitzgerald is entering his 10th season as head coach of Northwestern. He carries a 60-53 all-time record. Fitzgerald will be looking to earn success through the legs of sophomore running back Justin Jackson, who posted 1,187 yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman.
