Rutgers vs. Washington Prediction
Washington could be a sleeper playoff contender this season but will the Huskies cover such a large spread versus Rutgers at 2:00PM ET on Saturday?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Huskies are now a 26.5-point home favorites versus the Scarlet Knights while the over/under currently sits at 54.5 points. Washington had opened as a 24-point favorite before the line jumped two-and-a-half points, while the total opened at 55 before being bet down slightly.
Rutgers was a poor play all of last year for bettors. The Scarlet Knights finished with a 4-8 record against the spread, failing to cover by an average margin of -4.2 points. As an underdog, Rutgers was 2-5 against the spread on the year and as an away underdog, which is what the Scarlet Knights will be on Saturday, they were 1-3 at thee betting window.
Washington was the opposite for bettors in 2015. The Huskies covered in eight of their 13 games and covered by a margin of +9.5 points per contest. As a favorite, the Huskies were an excellent 6-2 against the spread in 2015 and as a home favorite, they were 4-2 at the betting window, covering by a margin of +11.8 points per game.
OUR EARLY PICK: This is a lot of points to lay but Washington should be able to handle the number. Last year's outstanding defense returns most of its two-deep roster and quarterback Jake Browning should be ready to take that next step after impressing last season as a freshman. The Huskies are a perfect 4-0 against the spread in their last four non-conference games and are 4-1 against the number in their last five games in September. The Scarlet Knights, meanwhile, are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six games overall.
