ACC Conference Prediction

ACC Conference Predictions 8/21/19, Will Clemson win again?

The Clemson Tigers have dominated the ACC over the last four years. Are the Tigers set to add another championship to their list in the 2019 season?

According to oddsmakers, Clemson is the overwhelming favorite to win the ACC this year, as the Tigers have -400 odds. Other short odds to win the conference are Miami (+800), Virginia (+1600), Florida State (+1800) and Virginia Tech (+1800).

Clemson has won the ACC Championship Game the last four years and five times in program history. The Tigers are coming off a dominant showing the national championship games last year and bring back 12 starters this year, headlined by QB Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence could be one of the all-time great college players by the time his three years is done.

Miami has not won the ACC Championship Game in program history, but did appear in the 2017 final. The Hurricanes were just 4-4 in the ACC last year and have a new coach this season in Manny Diaz. Miami has 12 starters back this season, including seven on a solid defense that ranked 18th in scoring in 2018.

Virginia has never reached the ACC Championship Game and the Cavs are coming off a 4-4 record in the conference last year. UVA has 13 starters back this season, including QB Bryce Perkins, who returns for his senior year.

Florida State has won the ACC Championship Game four times, last doing so in 2014. The Seminoles had a rough 2018 with a 3-5 ACC record under new coach Willie Taggart. FSU has 15 starters back in 2019.

Virginia Tech has won the ACC Championship Game three times and appeared in it six times. The Hokies were last champs in 2010. Last season, Tech was 4-4 in conference play. This year, Virginia Tech has 15 starters back, including eight from a defense that was very un-Tech like, giving up 31 points per game.

Clemson is clearly the class of the ACC. The value is certainly not ideal, as you are going to have to wager a lot to win anything of note. Injuries can always be a risk, but even with some injuries, Clemson can still win this conference. All of the other top contenders have big question marks and haven’t shown any consistency in recent history. I’d be shocked if the Tigers don’t win a fifth straight title.

ACC Conference Championship Prediction: Clemson -400
