Updated 2018 Heisman Trophy Odds
The 2018-19 college football season is right around the corner and with that, let’s take a look at the updated Heisman Trophy odds, where Stanford’s Bryce Love is the current favorite to take home the hardware.
According to oddsmakers, Love is a 7/1 favorite to win the 2018 Heisman Trophy this season, followed by Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor and Alabama’s Tua Tagovailoa at 17/2, respectively. Khalil Tate of Arizona and Will Grier of West Virginia are both 15/1, respectively, and round out the top 5 in terms of the odds.
What about the rest of the top 10? Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins, Georgia’s Jake Fromm, Oregon’s Justin Herbert, Michigan’s Shea Patterson, and Penn State’s Trace McSorley, are all 18/1, respectively, to win this year’s Heisman Trophy award. Ohio State’s JK Dobbins, Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray, and Clemson’s Trevor Lawrence are 20/1, respectively.
Some of the mid-range long-shots include Georgia’s Dandre Swift, Washington’s Jake Browning, and Auburn’s Jarrett Stidham at 25/1, respectively. Florida State’s Cam Akers, Alabama’s Damien Harris, Missouri’s Drew Lock, and Clemson’s Kelly Bryant are all 30/1, respectively. Deondre Francois, who was injured and lost for the season in Week 1 last year, is 35/1 to win the Heisman Trophy this year.
Thoughts on the odds…
Tagovailoa is still competing with Jalen Hurts for the starting quarterback job in Alabama but oddsmakers clearly aren’t buying that Hurts will start. Tagovailoa burst onto the scene last year by leading Alabama back against Georgia to win the national championship after entering the game at halftime. He gives the Tide something it hasn’t had in years: A pure passer that can elevate the offense. No offense to the signal-callers that ‘Bama has had in years past but this is the first time that I can remember that Saban didn’t have a pure game manager under center. Tagovailoa has a whip and has NFL potential. I like him at 17/2 to win the Heisman.
