UCLA Bruins Win Total Prediction
The UCLA Bruins made a bold hire in Chip Kelly to replace Jim Mora but now Kelly has a daunting task ahead of him. Given a lack of overall talent and a brutal schedule, will the Bruins even win six games in Kelly’s first season?
The Odds
According to oddsmakers, the Bruins’ over/under for wins in the 2018 regular season has been set at 5.5. The over has odds of 27/20, while the under has odds of 20/33. (Check out national championship future odds here.)
Last Season
The Bruins’ 2017 season started off great, as Josh Rosen and Co. overcame a 34-point deficit to stun Texas A&M 45-44 in the opening week of the season. But the wheels fell off early, as UCLA lost back-to-back games at Memphis and Stanford before beating Colorado at home. The Bruins lost four of its last seven games, then fell to Kansas State in the Cactus Bowl to drop their season record to 6-7.
Upcoming Schedule
The Bruins open the year at home against Cincinnati but back-to-back tough non-conference games await in Oklahoma (in Norman) and Fresno State at home. Conference play opens at Colorado, then the Bruins host Washington before traveling in-state to Cal. Pac-12 home games against Arizona, Utah, USC, and Stanford, as well as road dates with Oregon and Arizona State round out the rest of the schedule. Our Season Prediction
Kelly will have a difficult time winning six games in his first season at UCLA. The cupboard isn’t exactly stocked and the schedule is rough. Not that Bruin fans want to read this but 2018 might be about moral victories for Kelly and Co. If the Bruins can knock off USC, it would at least inspire some confidence moving forward. Either way, I see the Bruins getting off to a slow start before gradually getting better in the second half of the season. But unless Devon Modster or heralded freshman Dorian Thompson-Robinson becomes a star in Kelly’s offense, I don’t see the Bruins winning more than five games this season.
