Jalen Hurd Heisman Odds
KNOXVILLE, TN (TheSpread) – Nearly rushing for 1,000 yards as a freshman, will Tennessee running back Jalen Hurd have a sophomore slump, or make a run at the Heisman Trophy?
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Hurd is listed with 100/1 odds to win the 2015 Heisman Trophy. Trevone Boykin of TCU is the current favorite with 6/1 odds while Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott has 7/1 odds. Jeremy Johnson of Auburn and Nick Chubb of Georgia each have 10/1 odds.
Standing 6-3 and weighing 230 pounds, Hurd is plenty to have to bring down and he showed that in 2014 when he rushed for 899 yards with five touchdowns while catching 35 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns. He also did that in a young Tennessee offense, which should pay off big in 2015, as the Vols return most of their weapons on offense and should be able to build off how they finished in 2014.
Hurd was very strong when given the ball consistently during the season. He had four 100-yard games on the year and he was given at least 16 carries in all four games, and at least 20 in three of them. Some of his lowest rushing totals came in games where he was given just 11 attempts or less. Toward the end of the season, Hurd became a bigger part of the pass game. He had 22 of his 35 receptions over Tennessee’s 7th-11th games. Look for Hurd to start off strong in 2015, and if he stays healthy, put together some numbers that could make him a dark horse in the Heisman race.
