Marquise Williams Heisman Odds
CHAPEL HILL, NC (TheSpread) – A dual-threat quarterback, can Marquise Williams find a way to dominate the ACC this season and become a Heisman Trophy contender?
According to the latest oddsmakers, Williams is listed with 100/1 odds to win the 2015 Heisman Trophy. Trevone Boykin of TCU is the current favorite with 6/1 odds while Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott has 7/1 odds. Jeremy Johnson of Auburn and Nick Chubb of Georgia each have 10/1 odds.
The 6-2, 220-pound quarterback is entering his senior season with UNC. He has seen significant time on the field in the last two seasons. In 2013, Williams had 1,698 passing yards with 15 touchdowns and six interceptions while rushing for 536 yards and six scores. Last season, Williams took a big step up for the Tar Heels, throwing for 3,068 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for 788 yards and 13 scores. He also completed 63.1 percent of his passes.
Williams had some impressive showings in the big games last year. In a 50-35 loss to Clemson on the road, he had 345 passing yards with four touchdowns. In a 50-43 loss at Notre Dame, Williams threw for 303 yards with two touchdowns while rushing for 132 yards and a score. Another big outing came in a 48-43 win over Georgia Tech, as he had 390 yards with four touchdowns while rushing for 73 yards and a score. He also had back-to-back 276-yard passing games in wins over Pitt and Duke while rushing for a combined 220 yards and five touchdowns. It’s clear that Williams can put up the stats, he just needs the UNC defense to improve so the team can win enough games for him to be a Heisman contender.
