J.T. Barrett Heisman Odds
COLUMBUS, OH (TheSpread) – The Ohio State Buckeyes have a clear traffic jam at the quarterback position. Will J.T. Barrett emerge as the starter and possibly contend for the Heisman Trophy?
According to oddsmakers at GTBets, Barrett is listed with 25/1 odds to win the Heisman Trophy in 2015. Currently, Ezekiel Elliott of Ohio State and Trevone Boykin of TCU are co-favorites at 7/1 while Nick Chubb of Georgia has 8/1 odds.
Barrett was a virtual unknown at this time a year ago. Ohio State was set to go into the season with Braxton Miller as the starter, but an injury to him during training camp opened the door for Barrett, who ended up throwing for 2,834 yards and 34 touchdowns while rushing for 938 yards and 11 scores. Barrett was making a Heisman campaign in 2014, but an injury ended his season prematurely and gave Cardale Jones the opportunity to lead Ohio State in the Big Ten title game and the College Football Playoffs.
Now, surprisingly, Miller, Barrett and Jones have all elected to return to Ohio State for the 2015 season and it is unclear which one will get the starting nod. Of the three, Barrett has the longest odds to win the Heisman, but those will jump a great deal if he is named the starter. Barrett made big strides during the 2014 season and we can only assume he’d continue to get better if he plays in the 2015 season.
