According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, Perkins is 18/1 to win the 2015 Heisman Trophy. There are four running backs listed ahead of him, including Ezekiel Elliott (7/1) of Ohio State, Nick Chubb (8/1) of Georgia, Leonard Fournette (10/1) of LSU, and Derrick Henry (16/1) of Alabama.
Perkins had a fantastic season for the Bruins in 2014, rushing for 1,575 yards on 251 carries (6.3 YPC) and nine touchdowns while leading the Pac-12 in rushing. He also added 26 receptions for 201 yards and an additional two scores through the air. He was voted to the all-conference team.
Back in May, ESPN’s KC Joyner said that Perkins “could end up contending for the Heisman Trophy” and thinks Perpkins is one of the best running backs in the nation. It’s hard to argue with Joyner after watching Perkins run a year ago and he’s certainly a darkhorse to win the Heisman in 2015.
