Northwestern Season Odds
EVANSTON, IL (TheSpread) – After finishing under .500 the last two seasons, will Northwestern be able to get back on track in the 2015 college football season?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Northwestern is currently listed at +25000 to win the 2015 College Football Playoffs. The Wildcats are also getting odds of +8000 to win the Big Ten Championship this season.
Fitzgerald is entering his 10th season with the Wildcats this year. He has amassed a 60-53 record overall in his nine seasons with a 30-42 mark in the Big Ten. The Wildcats have went just 5-7 in each of the last two seasons and been 4-12 combined in the Big Ten. That was a big drop from the 10-3 record in 2012 that saw Fitzgerald get his lone bowl victory.
Typically Northwestern has been a strong offensive squad, but the team struggled last season, posting just 23 points per game, which ranked 101st nationally. They only could produce 353.1 yards per game on offense. Defensively, Northwestern was pretty strong, holding opponents to just 25.2 points per game.
One bright spot for the team was Justin Jackson, who rushed for 1,187 yards and 10 touchdowns as a freshman. He will be looked at to lead the team this year. The Wildcats had issues at quarterback last season, but it does return senior Zack Oliver, who threw for 367 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions in limited action last year. He is the most experienced arm in what will be a battle for the starting position entering the fall.
Northwestern faces a few challenges early in the season, as it kicks things off by hosting Stanford and then heads to Duke two weeks later. Big Ten play features challenging road games with Michigan, Nebraska and Wisconsin, but the Cats have a manageable home schedule that should allow them to get to at least 6 wins this season.
