Bama still King according to the Odds

National Championship Odds: Is Alabama still the Favorite? 2/16/18

Georgia had an incredible recruiting period but Alabama remains king according to the latest national championship odds.

According to oddsmakers from online sports book, the Crimson Tide is a 9/4 favorite to win it all again next season. That should surprise no one after freshman Tua Tagovailoa replaced Jalen Hurts at halftime of the national championship game and led ‘Bama to victory over Georgia.

Tagovailoa proved in just two quarters that he provides Alabama a legitimate passing attack for next season, on top of being a tremendous runner like Hurts. ‘Bama will once again be in the playoff mix for a fifth straight season but then again, what else is new?

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs don’t even have the second-best odds behind ‘Bama. Clemson is 13/2, Ohio State is 7/1 and then it’s Georgia, at 8/1, to win the 2019 national championship. Armed with the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class, the Bulldogs will be right back in the hunt to win the SEC again next season despite losing (eventually) key pieces to the NFL. Jake Fromm led UGA to the title game last year as a freshman and it would surprise no one if the Dawgs met the Tide in the title game again next year.

Speaking of Clemson, the Tigers will have an interesting quarterback quandary over the summer. Kelly Bryant struggled against Alabama in the semi-finals this past season but was otherwise terrific in replacing Deshaun Watson. That said, he’ll receive competition from Trevor Lawrence, who was the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2018. Ohio State and Oklahoma will also replace their quarterbacks, as Dwayne Haskins and Kyler Murray are expected to replace J.T. Barrett and Baker Mayfield, respectively.

Continuing with the odds, Michigan and Penn State are both 16/1, respectively, to win the national championship in 2010. Oklahoma is 25/1, Florida State and Wisconsin are 30/1, respectively, while Auburn, LSU, Miami, Texas and Washington are all 35/1, respectively.
