Duke vs. Virginia Tech Prediction
Can Virginia Tech hang with Duke when the ACC foes clash at 12:00PM ET on Saturday?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Hokies are 4-point home underdogs versus the Blue Devils while the over/under currently sits at 149.5 points. Virginia Tech opened as a 5-point dog before the number was bet down to 4, and the total opened at 148 before being bet up to the current number of 149.5.
Duke is coming off its 72-61 win over Elon that drew national headlines due to star player Grayson Allen tripping yet another opponent (the third time in a calendar year to be exact). Allen was suspended and is currently out indefinitely, so he won't play today against the Hokies. He is currently the Blue Devils' leader in assists, while Luke Kennard has a team-high average in points with 20.4, and Amile Jefferson leads the team in both rebounds (10.8) and field goal percentage (64.8)
As for Virginia Tech, the Hokies are 11-1 on the year and 5-3 against the spread in their eight lined games. Zach LeDay leads the way with 16.7 points per game and 1.1 blocks, while Justin Robinson is averaging 4.4 assists and Chris Clarke has the honors in rebounds (8.1), field goal percentage (64.1), and steals (1.4). The Hokies are coming off an 87-70 win over UMBC in a game that did not have a point spread.
OUR PREDICTION: The Blue Devils are just 1-4-1 against the spread in their last six road games and are winless at 0-5 against the number in their last five conference games. The Hokies, meanwhile, are an impressive 9-1 at the betting window in their last 10 games as a home underdog, are 14-3 against the number in their last 17 home games, and are 21-6 against the spread in their last 27 games overall.
