Virginia vs. Cal Prediction
The Cal Golden Bears are a small home underdog tonight against Virginia. Are they a good bet to cover at 10:00PM ET?
According to oddsmakers from online sports book Bovada.lv, the Golden Bears are 3-point home underdogs versus the Cavaliers after opening as a 5-point dog. As for the total, the number hit the board at 118.5 and that's where it currently sits at the majority of online and Vegas sports books.
Virginia destroyed Robert Morris in its last game, rolling to a 79-39 victory and covering as a 31.5-point favorite. Four players got into double-digits for points, as Devon Hall and Kyle Guy paced the team with 13 points, and Jack Salt and Jarred Reuter added 10 points apiece. Isaiah Wilkins also finished with seven points, six rebounds and six assists in the victory.
The Bears are also coming off a victory, an 81-55 win over Cal Poly SLO as a 19-point favorite. Jabari Bird racked up a team-high 25 points in the victory, while Ivan Rabb finished with 18 points, six rebounds, an assist and three blocked shots. Kingsley Okoroh was a beast on the boards, grabbing a team-high 11 rebounds to go with his three points. Charlie Moore also had 12 points and five assists.
OUR PREDICTION: I like the home dog in this spot. The Golden Bears are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games coming off a win of more than 20 points, are 4-1 against the number in their last five home games versus a team with a winning road record, and are 8-3 against the number in their last 11 games coming off a successful cover. Virginia's stout defense will provide a massive challenge but Cal is 24-2 in non-conference home games under Cuonzo Martin. Plus, with the combination of Bird and Rabb, the Golden Bears will provide a nice challenge for the Cavalier defense as well.
