Terriers stun Tar Heels

Wofford stunned previously 17th-ranked North Carolina 68-64 on the road Sunday to improve to 7-4 overall and 2-3 on the road. The Terriers outscored the Tar Heels 36-28 in the second half to secure the win. Trevor Stumpe paced Wofford with 19 points on 6-of-10 shooting including 4-of-6 from 3-point range plus 3-of-3 at the free throw line. He also accounted for five assists, three rebounds and two steals. Storm Murphy tallied 15 points, five boards and three assists. Messiah Jones added 13 points, five caroms, three steals, three blocked shots and two assists off the bench. 

Blue Devils roll at Hokies

Duke cruised to a 77-63 victory Friday night at Virginia Tech to move to 9-1 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Blue Devils outscored the Hokies 39-22 in the second half after trailing by three at the break. Tre Jones paced Duke with 15 points on 7-of-16 shooting including 1-of-5 from 3-point distance. He also registered six rebounds and four assists. Vernon Carey Jr. tallied 12 points, five boards and two dimes. Wendell Moore Jr. contributed 12 points, five caroms and two assists off the bench. Jordan Goldwire added 10 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals as a reserve.

Prediction:

Aside from a poor performance at home in an overtime loss to Stephen F. Austin, the Blue Devils have been in fine form this season. They have an oustanding offense that is 12th nationally in adjusted efficiency coupled with a defense ranked third in adjusted efficiency. I think it will be all too much to handle for a Wofford squad that is decent, but not quite as good as it looked against a reeling UNC squad last weekend. The Terriers lost by 19 on the road to both Butler and Missouri. The Blue Devils will provide an even steeper challenge. I'm betting on Duke to cover.
