Golden Eagles edged by Ospreys

Southern Mississippi lost by a score of 72-69 at home Saturday against North Florida to drop to 3-8 overall and 3-2 at home. The Golden Eagles trailed 32-29 at halftime and could not solve the Ospreys after the break. Tyler Stephenson paced Southern Miss with 27 points on 11-of-18 shooting plus 5-of-8 at the free throw line. He also registered six rebounds and two steals. Gabe Watson accounted for 16 points, 10 boards and two assists. LaDavius Draine added 15 points, five rebounds and four dimes.

Red Raiders stun Cardinals

Texas Tech earned a 70-57 win over top-ranked Louisville Tuesday night in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Red Raiders outscored the Cardinals 39-29 in the second half to pull away. Davide Moretti led Texas Tech with 18 points on 4-of-15 shooting including 2-of-10 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-8 at the charity stripe. He also dished out three assists. Terrence Shannon Jr. contributed 13 points and three rebounds. Avery Benson added 10 points, four boards and two blocked shots off the bench.

Prediction:

The Red Raiders' three losses in a row were all to decent teams in the top 60 - Iowa, Creighton and DePaul - with the latter two defeats coming in overtime. The first two losses were on neutral courts, while the contest against DePaul was on the road. That was followed by a neutral court shocker by blasting Louisvlle. Texas Tech is not the team that went to the NCAA Tournament championship game last season, but it is also still a very strong unit. The Red Raiders get after it defensively and are ranked seventh in adjusted efficiency on that end of the court. Coupled with the fact that the Golden Eagles are weak on the offensive end and have lost all three of their games to top 50 teams by at least 25 points, I'm rolloing with Texas Tech tonight.
