FAU vs. Miami Prediction
With over a week off, will Miami look rusty when it hosts Florida Atlantic tonight at 7PM ET?
According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Miami is the strong favorite at home tonight, as the Hurricanes are getting odds of -19 points against Florida Atlantic. The over/under total is listed at 137.5points. Miami has won six straight in this series, but FAU is 2-2 against the spread in the last four encounters.
Miami is coming off an 82-46 win over South Carolina State 10 days ago and now returns to action on a three-game winning streak. While the Canes are 7-2 on the year, they have failed to cover in their last four lined games and are just 2-5 against the spread. Miami has been pretty good on the defensive side of the ball, holding opponents to just 57.3 points per game while racking up 74.2 points per game on offense. Ja’Quan Newton is leading Miami this season with 15.6 points and 3.9 assists per game while Davon Reed is averaging 12.7 points and 4.8 rebounds per contest.
FAU is coming off a 79-77 OT win at Ohio State last week despite being a 20.5-point underdog. The Owls are now 3-5 on the season and 4-3 against the spread. They have lost by single digits in every loss this season. FAU is putting up 75.5 points per game on the year while giving up 71.9 points per contest on defense. FAU doesn’t have a clear-cut offensive leader as seven different players are ranging from 8-to-11 points per game. Ronald Delph is putting up 10.9 points and 9.5 rebounds per game while Nick Rutherford is averaging 10.6 points and 6 assists per contest.
FAU is just 3-5 but the Owls have played competitive in every game and had a big upset of Ohio State last week. While Miami has the better talent, the Owls don’t rely on just one player, which makes them tough to defend. FAU will look to exploit the matchup that favors them the most and keep the game interesting. For a team that has yet to lose by more than 9 this season, I like them getting 19 points.
