Pirates get best of Cyclones

Seton Hall downed Iowa State nine days ago in the fifth place game of the Battle 4 Atlantis to improve to 6-2 on the season. The Pirates outscored the Cyclones 52-43 in the second half to secure the win. Myles Powell paced Seton Hall with 24 points on 9-of-19 shooting including 4-of-10 from 3-point range plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also contributed four rebounds and two assists. Sandro Mamukelashvili tallied 18 points, six boards and two blocked shots. Quincy McKnight added 12 points, five assists, three caroms and three steals.

Cyclones take down Kangaroos

Iowa State rebounded from the Seton Hall defeat Wednesday night with a 79-61 victory over UMBC. The Cyclones outscored the Kangaroos 42-30 in the second half to pull away. Michael Jacobson led Iowa State with 19 points on 8-of-9 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point range plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also registered five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Rasir Bolton had 19 points, two boards and two assists. Tyrese Haliburton contributed 19 points, seven dimes, six rebounds and three steals. George Conditt IV added 12 points, seven caroms and two blocked shots off the bench.

College Basketball Trends

Seton Hall

The Pirates are 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. Seton Hall is 5-1 ATS in its last six road games.

Iowa State

The Cyclones are 4-1 ATS in their last five games as a favorite. Iowa State is 1-4 ATS in its last five games following a straight up win.

The Cyclones will be looking for revenge here and perhaps they get it, but I see this contest going down to the wire as players such as Powell and Mamukelashvili will do everything in their power to keep the Pirates right in the thick of this tough road contest. Seton Hall is the more efficient team on both ends of the court and I think that is the difference here. Even if ISU does win straight up, there are a few points of cushion on the spread. I'm siding with the Pirates on the road.
