Blue Devils dominate Spartans
Duke cruised to an 87-75 win Tuesday night at 11th-ranked Michigan State to improve to 8-1 overall and 1-0 on the road. The Blue Devils led 45-29 at halftime and continued to control the action after the break. Vernon Carey Jr. paced Duke with 26 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point range plus 9-of-12 at the free throw line. He also racked up 11 rebounds and three blocked shots. Tre Jones tallied 20 points, 12 assists, three steals and two boards. Joey Baker recorded 11 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Matthew Hurt contributed 10 points, three blocks, two caroms and two assists. Javin DeLaurier added 10 points, six rebounds and two steals as a reserve.
Hokies fall in Maiu final
Virginia Tech lost 90-77 against BYU nine days ago in the Maui Invitational championship game to drop to 6-2 on the season. The Hokies were outscored 55-40 in the second half of the defeat. Landers Nolley II led Virginia Tech with 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting including 3-of-4 from 3-point distance plus 1-of-1 at the charity stripe. He also recorded seven rebounds. P.J. Horne contributed 13 points and four boards. Nahiem Alleyne accounted for 12 points, four dimes and three rebounds. Wabissa Bede added 11 points, seven assists and four caroms.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Blue Devils are 5-14 ATS in their last 19 games following a straight up win. Duke is 1-4 ATS in its last five games as a favorite.
The Hokies are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 Friday games. Virginia Tech is 7-3 ATS in its last 10 home games.
This feels as though it could be a letdown spot for the Blue Devils after a major win earlier this week. The Hokies also have a win over MSU to their credit in Maui and possess a solid offense that can keep up with Duke on a good night. Virginia Tech defeated the Blue Devils on at home last season and lost by two in the ACC Tournament. I think the Hokies will show up again tonight as they look to improve to 2-0 in the ACC.
