The defending NCAA champion Villanova Wildcats have had an up-and-down beginning to the 2018-19 campaign. Is a bet on 24th-ranked Villanova the right way to go tonight as it hosts a 7-1 Temple squad?

Owls use big second half vs. St. Joe's

Temple (7-1) outscored host St. Joseph's 44-29 in the second half Saturday night to secure a 77-70 victory. The Owls won despite shooting only 27-of-68 from the floor including 6-of-27 from 3-point range. Shizz Alston Jr. paced Temple with 15 points along with six assists and five rebounds. Quinton Rose added 15 points, five assists and two steals.

Wildcats win fourth in a row

Villanova (6-2) continued its recent strong play Saturday with an 85-78 victory at La Salle. Eric Paschall paced the Wildcats with a game-best 27 points on 9-of-17 shooting. He added four rebounds and two assists. Phil Booth recorded 19 points, three boards and two assists. Collin Gillespie chipped in with 15 points and five assists. Villanova outscored the hosts 46-36 in the second half to overtake La Salle.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The over is 6-1-1 in the last eight Owls games versus the Big East. Temple is 4-1 ATS in its last five road games.

The Wildcats are 58-25-1 ATS in their last 84 non-conference games. Villanova is 13-5 ATS in its last 18 games overall.

I like the way Villanova has responded lately and while its freshman class still has some question marks, it is getting plenty of production from the veterans right now. Temple doesn't have a quality win to its credit and with this "road" game right in the Wildcats' backyard, I don't see that as much of a factor. Go with Villanova to record the double-digit win.
