Vols suffer first loss

Tennessee fell by a score of 60-57 Friday against Florida State in the Emerald Classic to drop to 5-1 on the season. The Volunteers trailed 29-24 at halftime on their way to the defeat. Lamonte Turner led Tennessee with 20 points on 4-of-14 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point range plus 11-of-14 from the free throw line. He also recorded three rebounds and two assists. Yves Pones tallied 13 points, 10 boards and three blocked shots. Jordan Bowden added 11 points and five caroms.

Rams fall to Boilermakers

Virginia Commomwealth suffered a 59-56 defeat Friday versus Purdue in the Emerald Classic to fall to 6-1 on the season. The Rams trailed 32-26 at halftime in the loss and were unable to recover. Marcus Santos-Silva was the lone VCU player in double figures for scoring as he had 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting plus 3-of-8 at the free throw line. He also accounted for two rebounds and two steals. De'Riante Jenkins registered nine points, six boards and two steals. Mike'l Sims added nine points in 25 minutes of action.

College Basketball Betting Trends

The Volunteers are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 Saturday games. Tennessee is 1-5 ATS in its last six neutral site games.

The Rams are 18-7-1 ATS in its last 26 Saturday games. Virginia Commonwealth is 2-7 ATS in its last nine games overall.

The Vols are the slightly higher-ranked team and in my opinion the better team here. While both squads are stout defensively, Tennessee is the better offensive team and converting more opportunities down the stretch will likely be the difference here.
