Spartans roll in emotional night
Michigan State cruised to a 100-47 win Sunday night in its home opener one night after the death of star senior point guard Cassius Winston’s brother, Zach. The Spartans (2-0) led 54-23 at halftime on their way to the win. Winston led MSU with 17 points on 7-of-16 shooting including 3-of-8 from 3-point distance. He also registered 11 assists and two rebounds. Xavier Tillman accounted for 17 points, eight boards and two assists. Aaron Henry tallied 16 points, four steals, three blocked shots and two rebounds. Marcus Bingham Jr. accounted for 13 points, six boards and three blocks off the bench. Thomas Kithier added 10 points, three caroms and three dimes.
Pirates easy past Stony Brook
Seton Hall earned a 74-57 win Saturday at home over Stony Brook to improve to 2-0 on the season. The Pirates trailed by two at halftime before outscoring the Seawolves 43-24 in the second half. Sandro Mamukelashvili paced Seton Hall with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting including 2-of-4 from 3-point distance plus 3-of-4 at the free throw line. He also notched five rebounds and two assists. Quincy McKnight accounted for 14 points, four boards and three assists. Jared Rhoden had 11 points, three caroms, two assists and two steals off the bench. Romaro Gill added 10 points and 10 caroms.
NCAA Basketball Betting Trends
Michigan State
The Spartans are 9-4 ATS in their last 13 road games. Michigan State is 43-19-1 ATS in its last 63 Thursday games.
Seton Hall
The Pirates are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games. Seton Hall is 20-8 ATS in its last 28 Thursday games.
Prediction:
Seton Hall has looked pretty good against two subpar opponents, but the Spartans are a different beast. After falling to Kentucky in its season opener, Michigan State will want a win against a quality opponent and the Pirates fit that bill. I just don’t see Seton Hall hanging with MSU’s well-rounded attack and I think Winston has a big night to help the Spartans take care of business here.
