According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, Providence is favored at home in this game, as the Friars are getting odds of -3.5 points against the Golden Gophers. The over/under total for the game has yet to be set. Tonight’s game takes place from the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence, Rhode Island. The game will air live on FS1.
Minnesota opened its season with a 92-77 win over SC Upstate in a non-lined game on Friday. The Gophers pulled down 54 rebounds in the win while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. Jordan Murphy had 35 points and 15 rebounds to lead Minnesota in the win while Reggie Lynch had 15 points and 10 rebounds as well. The Gophers are coming off a 24-10 record where they made their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2013. Minnesota was 19-13 against the spread in 2016-17 and 6-4 ATS on the road.
Providence opened its season on Friday with an 84-55 win over Houston Baptist in a non-lined game. The Friars shot 50 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from 3-point land in the victory. Maliek White came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 13 points while three others scored in double figures. Kyron Cartwright had 10 points and 10 assists. Providence is coming off a 20-13 record last season in which it lost in the First Four to USC. Providence was also 20-13 against the spread and 11-7 ATS at home.
These two have no meetings to consider. Minnesota has a lot of promise leading up to this season, but I am not sure the Gophers are at their potential right now. Minnesota is still learning how to win, as shown by their quick exit in the NCAA Tournament. Now going on the road to face a Providence team that has sustained a certain level of success over the year. I think Providence should be able to hold back this developing Minnesota team today. The public betting has yet to come out with this game, but I think the Friars get it done.
