Duke just emerged as the AP Top 25 top-ranked team in the first preseason poll. The Blue Devils bring back three starters from last year’s Sweet 16 team and have second-ranked recruiting class from last spring. Grayson Allen returns to lead Duke after putting up 21.6 points per game last season.
Kansas is No. 3 in the AP Top 25. The Jayhawks bring in a strong freshman class as well, but they lost their top two scorers from last season’s team. Frank Mason III is the leading returning scorer at 12.9 points per game.
Kentucky is second in the AP Top 25. The Wildcats again lost some top-level players, but bring in another top-level freshmen class. Isaiah Briscoe is the leading returning scorer at 9.6 points per game.
Arizona is 10th in the opening AP poll. The Wildcats lose their top-two scorers from a year ago, including double-double player Ryan Anderson. Allonzo Trier is a talented returner though, as he averaged 14.8 points per game last season.
Oregon sits fifth in the AP poll. The Ducks return a lot of impressive talent from last season, led by Dillon Brooks. Brooks averaged 16.7 points and 5.4 rebounds last season. Also back are Tyler Dorsey and Chris Boucher, who each averaged over 12 points per game.
