According to oddsmakers at Bovada.lv, North Carolina is favored to take the title, as it has 6/1 odds. Other short odds to win are Kentucky (8/1), Maryland (12/1) and Virginia (12/1).
North Carolina is coming off a 26-12 season with an 11-7 mark in the ACC. The Tar Heels lost in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. UNC returns four players that averaged double figures last season.
Kentucky is coming off a 38-1 season with an 18-0 record in the SEC. The Wildcats lost in the Final Four. While Kentucky has a very young roster, it is likely to lose many to the NBA Draft, but UK has a strong recruiting class once again.
Maryland was 28-7 last year and 14-4 in its first season in the Big Ten. The Terrapins lost in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. Maryland returns two of its three leading scorers next season, led by guard Melo Trimble, who will be a sophomore.
Virginia was 30-4 last season and 16-2 in the ACC. The Cavaliers lost in the third round of the NCAA Tournament. The Cavaliers return most of their top performers from last season and will have one of the top defenses in the country again.
