Bisons get past Shockers

Lipscomb carved out a 71-64 victory Tuesday night in the NIT semifinals over Wichita State to advance to tonight's title game. The Bisons (29-7) established a 35-30 halftime lead and in the second half, Garrison Mathews hit his fifth 3-pointer of the contest with 1:10 left to help put it away. Mathews finished with a game-best 34 points on 9-of-22 shooting including 5-of-15 from 3-point distance plus 11-of-12 from the free throw line in the winning effort. He also accounted for five rebounds and two blocked shots. Rob Marberry added 11 points and four boards. Lipscomb shot 23-of-63 from the floor, 9-of-33 from 3-point range plus 16-of-19 at the charity stripe.

Longhorns hammer Horned Frogs

Texas eased to a 58-44 win over Texas Christian Tuesday night in the NIT semifinals to improve to 20-16 on the season. The Longhorns led 31-17 at halftime en route to the triumph. Texas shot 23-of-54 from the floor, 5-of-15 from 3-point land plus 7-of-15 at the free throw line. Kerwin Roach II paced Texas with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting including 1-of-1 from 3-point range along with 3-of-9 at the free throw line. He also contributed three assists and two rebounds. Dylan Osetkowski added 13 points and nine boards.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Lipscomb

The Bisons are 4-0 ATS in their last four games overall. Lipscomb is 2-7 ATS in its last nine Thursday games.

Texas

The Longhorns are 5-1 ATS in their last six Thursday games. Texas is 2-5 ATS in its last seven games overall.

Prediction:

This will be a clash of styles as Lipscomb wants to push the pace with the 13th-fastest tempo in the nation, while Texas prefers a slow pace at 322nd in the country. While Texas has had the tougher schedule this season, Lipscomb has beaten its fair share of quality teams and avoided losses in all but one of its games against subpar opponents. The Bisons have proven themselves in this tournament, but they are also one bad night from Mathews away from having a tough go of it. With how Texas clamped down on TCU, I think that defense plays an important role again tonight. The Longhorns are on a mission to catapult this tourney run into a strong 2019-20 campaign. I'm going with Texas tonight.
