Lions ease past Bears

Loyola Marymount recorded an 81-63 home victory Monday night in the CBI quarterfinals over Brown to improve to 22-11 on the season. The Lions outscored the Bears 37-26 in the second half after leading by seven at halftime. Loyola Marymount shot 30-of-61 from the floor, 9-of-22 from 3-point range plus 12-of-13 at the free throw line. James Batemon paced the Lions with 21 points on 7-of-12 shooting including 4-of-8 shooting plus 3-of-4 at the charity stripe. He also notched five assists, two rebounds and two steals. Joe Quintana tallied 12 points, six dimes, five rebounds and three steals. Mattias Markusson accounted for 11 points, five rebounds and four assists. Zafif Williams added 11 points and two boards off the bench.

Bulls get past Wolverines

South Florida earned a 66-57 win Monday night at home over Utah Valley to move on to the CBI quarterfinals with a 21-13 record. South Florida outscored the Wolverines 33-25 in the second half of the triumph. The Bulls shot 25-of-61 from the field, 10-of-25 from 3-point land plus 6-of-6 at the free throw line. Alexis Yetna led South Florida with 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting including 2-of-3 from 3-point range plus 2-of-2 at the free throw line. He also notched 10 rebounds and three assists. David Collins accounted for 17 points, five steals, three assists and two boards. LaQuincy Rideau added 14 points, four caroms, four dimes and four steals.

Prediction:

The Bulls are a poor offensive team, but strong on the defensive end and effectively neutralized a Utah Valley squad that is much better on the offensive end than Loyola Marymount. While South Florida leaves something to be desired on the offensive end, I think it does enough damage tonight to pull away and cover this spread at home.
