Mercer vs. Tennessee Odds


RALEIGH, NC (TheSpread) – No. 11 Tennessee and No. 14 Mercer both look to earn an improbable Sweet 16 bid today when the two meet at 6:10PM ET in the NCAA Tournament.

According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Tennessee is the clear favorite to win, as the Volunteers have odds of -8 points against Mercer. The over/under total for the game has been set at 128 points (View Matchup). These two met in last year in the postseason, with Mercer picking up a 75-67 win over the Volunteers.

Tennessee is now 20-13 against the spread and the Vols have hit the under 19 times. Tennessee is the lone team with two NCAA Tournament wins coming into the third round. After winning on Wednesday in the First Four, the Vols hammered No. 6 UMass, 86-67 on Friday. Despite shooting just 2 of 14 from 3-point land, Tennessee was 30 of 56 from the floor in the win and the Vols moved the ball well, picking up 16 assists with eight steals. Jarnell Stokes had 26 points and 14 rebounds to lead Tennessee in the win while Jordan McRae added 21 points.

Mercer is just 3-3 against the spread now while hitting the over in 4 of 6 lined games. The Bears had the biggest upset of the second round, downing No. 3 Duke, 78-71 for their fifth straight win. Mercer played with poise the whole game and made key plays down the stretch to pull away from the Blue Devils. Mercer was committed to let Duke shoot from the outside, and the Blue Devils were 15 of 37 from 3-point land, but had just 7 2-point field goals in the game. Mercer shot well, going 25 of 45 from the field and 23 of 28 from the free-throw line. Jakob Gollon had 20 points and five rebounds to lead Mercer, while Daniel Coursey had 17 points with four rebounds.
