McMurray leads way past Golden Hurricane

Southern Methodist picked up a 74-65 win over Tulsa Thursday to advance to the AAC Tournament quarterfinals. The Mustangs (15-16) established a 47-33 halftime lead en route to the win. Southern Methodist shot 24-of-52 from the floor, 10-of-25 from 3-point range plus 16-of-22 at the free throw line. Jahmal McMurray led the way with 27 points on 7-of-14 shooting including 4-of-9 from 3-point range plus 9-of-11 at the charity stripe. He also contributed five assists and two rebounds. Ethan Chargois tallied 12 points, six boards and two assists. Jarrey Foster added 10 points and six caroms.

Bearcats fall short for AAC title share

Cincinnati lost 85-69 at home Sunday afternoon against Houston to finish the regular season 25-6 overall and 14-4 in the AAC. The Bearcats were outscored 48-34 in the second half after trailing by only two at halftime. Cincinnati shot 19-of-50 from the floor, 6-of-21 from 3-point range plus 25-of-33 at the free throw line. Jarron Cumberland paced the Bearcats with 20 points on 4-of-11 shooting including 3-of-7 from 3-point range plus 9-of-12 at the free throw line. He also pulled down three rebounds. Nysier Brooks added 16 points, six boards and two blocked shots.

Prediction:

Southern Methodist didn't have that great of a season as it struggled defensively, but it also didn't get blown out in a lot of games and only lost by a combined eight points in two games versus the Bearcats. I'm going to bank on the Mustangs to again show their competitive spirit tonight to keep this one interesting and cover the spread.
