Pirates heating up

Seton Hall is the 3 seed this weekend. The Pirates are coming off a 73-57 win over Georgetown last night for their third straight win and cover. The win streak started with a 73-64 win at home over Marquette. Seton Hall is 19-12 on the season, 10-9 in Big East games, 5-0 on a neutral floor, 15-16 against the spread and 18-12 with the under.

The Pirates are putting up 73.8 points per game on offense while shooting 44.3 percent as a team. Defensively, Seton Hall is giving up 71.2 points per game while holding opponents to 42.9 percent shooting. Myles Powell is leading the team with 22.9 points per game while Myles Cale is adding 10.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest.

Eagles end losing skid

Marquette put an end to its four-game losing streak last night with a dominant 86-54 win over St. John’s. The Golden Eagles are the 2 seed in this tournament, as they are 24-8 on the season, 13-6 in Big East games, 2-1 on a neutral floor, 19-13 against the spread and 18-11-2 with the under.

The Eagles are scoring 77.7 points per game on offense this season while shooting 46.2 percent as a team. Defensively, Marquette is giving up 68.7 points per game while holding opponents to just 40.1 percent shooting. Markus Howard is leading the team with 25.1 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists per game while Sam Hauser is adding 14.7 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Seton Hall

The Pirates are 13-2-1 against the spread in their last 16 games on a neutral floor and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Big East games.

Marquette

Marquette is 1-4 against the spread in its last five Big East games and 9-19 ATS in its last 28 games following a win of more than 20 points.

Prediction:

The home team won each of the two meetings during the regular season, but Seton Hall covered in both games. This should be a great display of two strong players in Powell and Howard. Though the Pirates had Marquette’s number during the season, I think the Eagles have the better team. Their offense is a little more proficient and the defense is a little more aggressive. Seton Hall is a team that can certainly get hot, but I think Marquette will do enough to get this one. The Eagles shook off their bad play with a great showing last night and I think it will carry over into tonight’s game.
