Wolfpack rally past Tigers

North Carolina State earned a 59-58 victory Wednesday afternoon over Clemson in its ACC Tournament opener as it came back from 18 down in the first half. The Wolfpack (22-10) outscored the Tigers 33-16 in the second half, with the win being capped by Markell Johnson as he hit the tying and go-ahead free throws with 2.6 seconds remaining. North Carolina State shot 23-of-56 from the floor, 6-of-21 from 3-point land plus 7-of-9 at the free throw line in the winning effort. Johnson was the lone Wolfpack player in double figures for scoring as he finished with a game-best 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting including 4-of-9 from 3-point distance plus 3-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also accounted for four assists and two rebounds.

Cavaliers hold off Cardinals

Virginia secured the top seed in the ACC Tournament Saturday with a 73-68 home win over Louisville to improve to 28-3 overall and 16-2 in conference play. The Cavaliers led 36-33 at halftime en route to the win. Virginia shot 23-of-57 from the field, 12-of-28 from 3-point range and 15-of-21 at the free throw line. Ty Jerome led the Cavaliers with 24 points on 8-of-14 shooting including 3-of-8 from 3-point range plus 5-of-7 at the free throw line. He also tallied six assists, four rebounds and two steals. Kyle Guy added 13 points and six boards.

College Basketball Betting Trends

North Carolina State

The Wolfpack are 4-1 ATS in their last five games. NC State is 6-0 ATS in its last six games following a straight up win.

Virginia

The Cavaliers are 5-1 ATS in their last six ACC games. Virginia is 42-17-1 ATS in its last 60 games overall.

Prediction:

Virginia is arguably the most complete team in the nation, although it did survive a scare by a score of 66-65 in overtime at North Carolina State back on January 29. Don't expect this one to be as close. The Wolfpack had to rally back and expend a lot of energy yesterday and I don't feel this spread is quite wide enough considering how dominant Virginia has been much of this season. Go with the No. 2 team in the nation to cover this number.
