DePaul coming off loss

DePaul is the 10 seed in this week’s tournament. The Blue Demons are coming off a 91-78 loss at Creighton last weekend. That ended a two-game win and cover streak for them. The Blue Demons are 15-14 on the season, 7-11 in the Big East, 3-8 on the road, 14-14-1 against the spread and 16-12-1 with the over.

The Demons are putting up 77 points per game this season while shooting 46.8 percent as a team. Defensively, DePaul is giving up 74.9 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 44.6 percent from the field. Max Strus leads the team with 19.0 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest while Femi Olujobi adds 13.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per contest.

St. John’s playing at home

St. John’s is coming off an 81-68 loss at Xavier for its third straight loss and failed cover, but the Red Storm get to spend the week at home as the No. 7 seed. St. John’s is 20-11 on the season, 8-10 in the Big East, 11-4 at home, 13-17-1 against the spread and 15-14-1 with the over.

The Red Storm are putting up 78.1 points per game on offense this season while shooting 45.8 percent as a team. Defensively, St. John’s is giving up 74.5 points per contest while opponents shoot 43.2 percent against them. Shamorie Ponds is leading the team with 19.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.6 steals per game. Mustapha Heron adds 15.0 points and 4.7 rebounds per contest.

College Basketball Betting Trends

DePaul

The Blue Demons are 2-5 against the spread in their last 7 Big East games and 1-5 ATS in their last six Wednesday games.

St. John’s

St. John’s are 1-4 against the spread in their last five Big East games and 8-3-1 ATS in their last 12 Wednesday games.

Prediction:

DePaul won and covered the spread in both meetings with St. John’s this season, but it’s hard to look past the Red Storm tonight. It’s essentially a home game for them. Their numbers haven’t been overly impressive at home, but there should be an added boost from the crowd due to it being the Big East Tournament. St. John’s has the better offense and the best player on the court. I will take my chances with them in this game.

College Basketball Prediction: St. John’s -5
