This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our College Basketball Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Butler far from its old self
The Butler Bulldogs were once a power on the national stage, but they have had a rough season. They are the ninth seed in the Big East Tournament this week. Butler is coming off an 83-70 loss at Providence last weekend for its fourth loss and failed cover in its last five games. Butler is 16-15 on the season, 7-11 in the Big East, 2-2 on a neutral floor, 12-19 against the spread and 15-15-1 with the over/under total.
The Bulldogs have been middle of the road on offense and defense. Offensively, Butler is putting up 72.3 points per game while shooting 44.5 percent as a team. Defensively, the Bulldogs are giving up 70.2 points per contest. Kamar Baldwin is leading the team with 17.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game while Paul Jorgensen is adding 11.8 points per contest.
Providence trying to heat up
Providence is the eighth seed this week. The Friars have struggled to win consistently, but have won and covered the spread in three of their last five games. Providence is now 17-14 on the season, 7-11 in conference games, 1-2 on a neutral floor, 14-17 against the spread and 16-14-1 with the under.
The Friars don’t have great numbers either. The offense is putting up just 71.4 points per game this season while shooting only 42.1 percent from the floor. Defensively, Providence is giving up 69.7 points per game while allowing opponents to shoot 43.3 percent. Alpha Diallo is leading Providence with 16.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while Nate Watson is adding 11.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Butler
The Bulldogs are just 1-4 against the spread in their last five conference games and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a loss.
Providence
Providence is 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games following a win and 0-7 ATS in their last seven following a cover.
Prediction:
Providence won and covered the spread in both meetings this season, including an OT win at Butler. These two met just a few days ago with the Friars earning a 13-point win. Rebounding was an advantage for Providence in both games, including a 37-19 edge in the game this weekend. I don’t see any reason that Butler would be able to turn the tables today. The Friar should still be able to control the glass and the tempo.
College Basketball Prediction: Providence +1
