Eagles unable to hang with Seminoles

Boston College lost 80-62 Saturday in its regular season finale at Florida State to fall to 13-18 overall and 7-13 in ACC action. The Eagles trailed 42-24 at halftime and were unable to mount a rally. Derryck Thornton led Boston College with 13 points on 3-of-12 shooting including 3-of-10 from 3-point distance plus 4-of-6 at the free throw line. He also tallied three rebounds and three assists. Steffon Mitchell accounted for 12 points, nine boards and two steals. Jay Heath added 12 points, six caroms and three assists.

Fighting Irish get past Hokies

Notre Dame secured a 64-56 home victory Saturday over Virginia Tech to improve to 19-12 overall and 10-10 in conference play. The Fighting Irish led 28-17 at halftime on their way to the win. T.J. Gibbs led Notre Dame with 22 points on 7-of-12 shooting including 5-of-8 from 3-point range plus 3-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also dished out two asssists. Dane Goodwin added 13 points, nine rebounds and four dimes off the bench.

Prediction:

Notre Dame looked like a bubble team until back-to-back losses to Wake Forest and Florida State made those thoughts burst. The Fighting Irish would need a fantastic run in the ACC Tournament to get back in the conversation, but against an Eagles team they split with this season in a pair of one-point games it won't be easy. Considering Notre Dame has been inconsistent and playing a team that has been tough on it, I'm siding with the underdogs in this spot.
