Will Gamecocks’ juice run out vs. UGA?
Frank Martin’s Gamecocks possess no shortage of motivation entering their Big 12 tournament showdown with Georgia at 9:25 p.m. ET.
With a win at Bridgestone Arena, South Carolina will match the school record for victories in a season (25). Here’s the rub: Michael Carerra’s status remains up in the air.
Online sports book BetDSI.com takes note of the uncertainty surrounding the Gamecocks’ inspirational leader, too. Shortly before tip-off, the higher-seeded squad are only 1.5-point favorites.
Carerra’s hip ailment definitely factors into the equation, but so does UGA’s performance in recent days. The Bulldogs’ current four-game winning streak has featured a multitude of sparkling performances from J.J. Frazier and Yante Maten. Just last night, they gouged Mississippi State for 32 points and generally made life miserable on the inside.
Yet Georgia’s still grappling with its first neutral-court action of the campaign. Martin accepted as many of those moments as possible early on, but the possible Carerra calamity levels the field considerably.
In an extremely tight meeting, ride with the Bulldogs to play (slight) spoiler.
