Cougars roll past Mustangs

Houston secured a 90-79 home win Thursday night over Southern Methodist to improve to 28-2 overall and 15-2 in conference play. The Cougars opened up a 46-37 halftime lead and continued to control the action after the break. Houston shot 34-of-64 from the floor, 12-of-29 from 3-point distance plus 10-of-14 at the charity stripe. Armoni Brooks paced the Cougars with 20 points on 7-of-13 shooting incuding 6-of-10 from 3-point range. He also pulled down 10 rebounds. Corey Davis Jr. accounted for 17 points and four assists. Breaon Brady had 16 points, six caroms and two assists. Galen Robinson Jr. added 11 points, five dimes and two steals.

Bearcats fall at Knights

Cincinnati lost by a score of 58-55 Thursday night at Central Florida to drop to 25-5 overall and 14-3 in conference action. The Bearcats trailed 29-21 at halftime and could not rally all the way back after the break. Cincinnati shot 23-of-62 from the floor, 6-of-18 from 3-point distance plus 3-of-6 at the free throw line. Tre Scott led the way with 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting including 2-of-3 from 3-point range. He also accounted for nine rebounds and three assists. Jarron Cumberland added 10 points, five assists and four boards.

College Basketball Betting Trends

Houston

The Cougars are 14-3 ATS in their last 17 road games. Houston is 4-0 ATS in its last four Sunday games.

Cincinnati

The Bearcats are 21-46 ATS in their last 67 Sunday games. Cincinnati is 0-7 ATS in its last seven games overall.

Prediction:

Houston has lost only once all season on the road, that being a 73-69 setback at Temple all the way back on January 9. The Cougars also have a 65-58 home victory over Cincinnati to its credit on February 10. This contest should be a dogfight, but I think the difference comes down to Houston's defense being a few notches better than the Bearcats' offense. The Cougars also have a solid offense and should be able to find big buckets down the stretch. Take the couple of points and roll with Houston to win the AAC outright.
