The over/under total for the contest is listed at 138.5 points. The public betting currently has 75 percent going on Texas Tech on the road. This information is subject to change, however, so be sure to check out our College Basketball Public Betting Page for updated figures on the game.
Red Raiders rolling
Texas Tech is on a roll right now, having won eight straight following a 70-51 win at home over Texas this week. The Red Raiders are 7-1 against the spread during this win streak. Tech is 25-5 on the season, 13-4 in the Big 12, 5-3 on the road, 14-15-1 against the spread and 17-12 with the under.
Tech is one of the best defensive teams in the nation, and arguably the best. The Red Raiders are second in the country in points allowed at just 58.2 per game while holding teams to a nation-worst 36.5 percent shooting. Offensively, Tech is putting up 72.8 points per game while shooting 47.4 percent as a team. Jarrett Culver is leading the team with 17.9 points and 6.3 rebounds per game. David Moretti is adding 11.3 points per contest.
Iowa State falling behind
Iowa State is coming off a 90-75 loss at West Virginia this week for its fourth loss in five games. The Cyclones are 2-7 against the spread in their last nine games. Iowa State is 20-10 on the season, 9-8 against the spread, 12-3 at home, 15-13-2 against the spread and 15-14 with the under.
The Cyclones are a respectable team, as the offense averages 77.9 points per game while shooting 47.8 percent, and the defense allows just 68.4 points per contest while holding opponents to 42.1 percent shooting. Leading scorer Marial Shayok is questionable for the game tonight with an ankle injury. He averages 18.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per contest. Lindell Wigginton adds 13.2 points per contest.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Texas Tech
The Red Raiders have covered the spread in six of their last seven following a win and five straight against a team with a winning record.
Iowa State
Iowa State is 7-3 against the spread in their last 10 games following a loss and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record.
Prediction:
Texas Tech has a lot at stake today, as the Red Raiders are competing for a Big 12 title. Tech has a great defense and it gets to face an Iowa State team that could be without its top player. At best, Shayok won’t be 100 percent and that will not help the Cyclones effort against this defense. The spread is quite small and I feel comfortable with Texas Tech remaining hot and picking up the cover today.
College Basketball Prediction: Texas Tech -2.5
