Purdue misses chance
Purdue had a chance to win the Big Ten title outright, but lost that chance this week in a 73-69 loss at Minnesota. That snapped a five-game win streak for the Boilers, who are just 2-4-1 against the spread in their last seven games. Purdue is 22-8 on the season, 15-4 in the Big Ten, 5-6 on the road, 16-13-1 against the spread and 16-14 with the over.
The Boilermakers are putting up 76.5 points per game on offense this season while shooting 44.8 percent as a team. Defensively, Purdue is giving up 66.9 points per game while holding opponents to 41.9 percent shooting. Carsen Edwards is leading the team with 23.4 points per game this season while Ryan Cline is adding 12.0 points per contest.
Northwestern ends losing streak
It’s been a rough stretch for Northwestern, but the Cats ended a 9-game losing streak this week with a 68-50 win at home over Ohio State. The Wildcats are now 13-17 on the season, 4-15 in the Big Ten, 10-7 at home, 12-16-2 against the spread and 18-11-1 with the under.
Northwestern has a good defense, but is one of the worst offensive teams in the country. The Wildcats average just 66.1 points per game on offense while shooting just 40.5 percent as a team. Defensively, Northwestern is giving up 64.6 points per game while holding opponents to 41.9 percent shooting. Vic Law is leading the team with 15.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game while Derek Pardon is adding 14.1 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Purdue
The Boilermakers are 0-4 against the spread in their last four road games and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight against a losing team.
Northwestern
The Wildcats are just 7-18-1 against the spread in their last 26 Big Ten games and 3-9-2 ATS in their last 14 games against a team with a winning record.
Prediction:
These two actually haven’t met since 2017, but I think both teams coming off an odd performance should favor Purdue today. The Boilermakers need a win to earn a conference title and are coming off a surprising loss that should have snapped the team back into focus. Northwestern is coming off an 18-point win at home over Ohio State where it probably go to enjoy life for a little bit. That will be mistaken confidence against this Purdue team. Edwards should be able to find ways to score while the Wildcats won’t have an answer.
College Basketball Prediction: Purdue -6.5
