Cougars roll past Bearcats

Houston earned a 68-55 home win Sunday afternoon over Cincinnati to improve to 22-7 overall and 12-4 in AAC play. The Cougars led 38-31 at halftime and continued to pull away after the break. Marcus Sasser paced Houston with 21 points on 8-of-16 shooting including 5-of-12 from 3-point distance. He also grabbed six rebounds. Nate Hinton tallied 16 points, seven boards and two steals. Caleb Mills added 15 points, three caroms, three assists and two steals. 

Huskies race past Pirates

Connecticut rolled to an 84-63 road victory Saturday at East Carolina to move to 17-12 overall and 8-8 in conference action. The Huskies led 42-30 at halftime and padded the advantage after the break. Christian Vital led UConn with 27 points on 7-of-15 shooting including 5-of-12 from 3-point range plus 8-of-9 at the charity stripe. He also racked up six rebounds and four steals. James Bouknight contributed 19 points, 10 boards and four assists. Isaiah Whaley had 16 points and seven caroms. Brendan Adams added 11 points, two rebounds and two assists off the bench.

The Cougars had a tough time getting past the Huskies at home in what was a 63-59 decision and with the younger players on the UConn roster growing with each game, it is a dangerous team to play at this time of season. The only defeat for the Huskies in their last five games was a double overtime heartbreaker at Temple. Look for UConn to play another whale of a game today and play spoiler against a Houston squad that has lost its last two road games straight up.
