Mississippi State ends win streak
The Mississippi State basketball team was riding a five-game win streak, but suffered an 80-75 loss at Auburn this weekend. The Bulldogs covered in the loss and are 5-1 against the spread in their last six games. The Bulldogs are 21-8 on the season, 9-7 in the SEC, 5-4 on the road, 15-14 against the spread and 15-14 with the under.
The Bulldogs are putting up 77.6 points per game on offense this season while shooting 47.4 percent as a team. Defensively, Mississippi State is giving up 69.8 points per game while opponents shoot 43.5 percent against them. Quinndary Weatherspoon is leading the team this season with 18.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game while Lamar Peters is adding 11.3 points and 5.3 assists per contest.
Tennessee coming off big win
Tennessee is coming off a 71-52 win at home over Kentucky for one of its best wins of the season. The Vols snapped a five-game losing streak at the betting window in the win as well. Tennessee is now 26-3 on the season, 14-2 in the SEC, 17-0 at home, 14-13-1 against the spread and 15-13 with the over.
The Volunteers are putting up strong numbers on offense, averaging 82.8 points per game while shooting 50.2 percent from the field. Defensively, Tennessee is giving up 67.5 points per game while holding opponents to just 39.2 percent from the field. Grant Williams is leading the team with 19.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game while Admiral Schofield is adding 16.4 points and 6.4 rebounds per contest.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Bulldogs have covered the spread in five of their last six SEC games, but just 2-6 ATS in their last eight Tuesday games.
The Vols are just 1-5 against the spread in their last six SEC games and 1-4 ATS in their last five against winning teams.
Tennessee had motivation to play well against Kentucky and the Vols had one of their best showings of the season. I can see a letdown tonight against a Mississippi State team it is heavily favored against. The Vols have struggled to cover prior to playing Kentucky while Mississippi State has been playing some of its best basketball right now. I think the Bulldogs have more to prove tonight and will give Tennessee a hard time.
