Flyers win 18th straight

Dayton earned an 82-67 victory Friday night at home over Davidson to clinch the outright Atlantic 10 championship while improving to 27-2 overall plus 16-0 in conference play. The Flyers led 42-24 at halftime on their way to the win. Obi Toppin paced Dayton with 23 points on 10-of-11 shooting including 3-of-4 from 3-point distance. He also registered 12 rebounds and four assists. Rodney Chatman tallied 14 points, two assists and two steals. Ibi Watson recorded 13 points in 24 minutes of action off the bench. Trey Landers accounted for 11 points, seven boards and two dimes. Jalen Crutcher added 10 points and seven assists.

Rams fall to Billikens 

Rhode Island lost 72-62 at home Sunday versus Saint Louis to drop to 20-8 overall and 12-4 in conference action. The Rams trailed 26-19 at halftime and were unable to bounce back. Fatts Russell paced Rhode Island with 17 points on 5-of-16 shooting including 2-of-7 from 3-point range plus 5-of-7 at the charity stripe. He also racked up eight steals, six assists and three rebounds. Cyril Langevine accumulated 12 points, 11 boards and four blocked shots. Tyrese Martin tallied 11 points and four caroms. Jeff Dowtin added 11 points and three rebounds.

Prediction:

This could be a letdown spot for the Flyers in theory, but I don't see it against even a strong Rams squad. Dayton downed the Rams 81-67 at their place and still has goals of a perfect Atlantic 10 season plus a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament at hand. Look for a strong and focused effort out of a Flyers squad that has the second-best offensive nationally in terms of adjusted efficiency.
