Spartans upset Wolverines

Michigan State went on the road last Sunday at rival Michigan and picked up a 77-70 victory to improve to 23-5 overall and 14-3 in the Big Ten Conference. The Spartans outscored the Wolverines 38-33 in the second half to secure the win. Michigan State shot 24-of-48 from the floor, 5-of-20 from 3-point range and 24-of-30 from the free throw line. Cassius Winston paced MSU with 27 points on 7-of-13 shooting including 13-of-14 from the free throw line. He also contributed eight assists, two rebounds and two steals. Kenny Goins tallied 16 points and 11 boards. Xavier Tillman had 14 points, five rebounds and two assists. Matt McQuaid added 13 points, five caroms and two dimes.

Hoosiers down Badgers in double OT

Indiana picked up a 75-73 home victory over Wisconsin Tuesday night as Romeo Langford won it with a layup as under a second remained in double overtime. The Hoosiers were outscored 33-29 in the second half to go into OT at 62-62, while the score was 68-68 at the end of the first overtime. Indiana shot 26-of-64 from the floor, 6-of-20 from 3-point range and 17-of-27 from the free throw line. Langford paced the Hoosiers with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting including 1-of-3 from 3-point distance plus 5-of-8 from the free throw line. He also contributed seven rebounds, two assists and two steals. Justin Smith tallied 12 points and six boards. Aljami Durham had 11 points in 46 minutes of action. Rob Phinisee added 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Prediction:

The Spartans have had six days off since the win at Michigan, so any chances of a letdown spot have probably dissipated. Michigan State has had plenty of time to prepare for an Indiana squad coming off a grueling win, although the Hoosiers are probably recovered in their own right with five days since that contest. But the Spartans are in the driver's seat for the Big Ten regular season title and I don't think they will be taking this one lightly, especially after losing to Indiana 79-75 at home in overtime back on February 2. Take MSU here as the favorites.
