Big second half lifts Spartans

Michigan State earned a 78-70 home victory Tuesday night over Iowa to improve to 19-9 overall and 11-6 in the Big Ten Conference. Rocket Watts paced the Spartans with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting including 2-of-7 from 3-point distance plus 1-of-1 at the free throw line. He also pulled down two rebounds. Cassius Winston tallied 20 points, nine assists and five boards. Aaron Henry added 17 points, six caroms and four assists. Michigan State outscored the Hawkeyes 51-37 in the second half after trailing by six at the break.

Morsell lifts Terrapins

Darryl Morsell hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with 1.9 seconds remaining Wednesday night to send Maryland to a 74-73 victory at Minnesota. The Terrapins outscored the Golden Gophers 43-26 in the second half after trailing by 16 at the break. Jalen Smith led Maryland with 16 points on 5-of-10 shooting including 1-of-3 from 3-point range plus 5-of-6 at the charity stripe. He also registered 12 rebounds and two blocked shots. Aaron Wiggins accounted for 16 points, three boards, three steals, two assists and two blocked shots off the bench. Morsell tallied 13 points and nine caroms. College Basketball Betting Trends

Michigan State

The Spartans are 3-9 ATS in their last 12 road games. Michigan State is 1-6 ATS in its last seven games overall.

Maryland

The favorite is 4-9-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings. The Terrapins are 39-17-4 ATS in their last 60 Saturday games.

Prediction:

The Terrapins and Spartans played one of the weirder college basketball games of the season two weeks ago in East Lansing when the latter rallied back to take a seven-point lead, only to give up the game's final 14 points in a 67-60 defeat. Look for a more focused effort down the stretch out of MSU today, but ultimately I don't see it being enough as Maryland has not lost at home all season and I don't see an inconsistent Michigan State team being the right squad to bet on to snap that streak. It's not March yet for one more day, so there is still time to bet against the Spartans.
