Cincinnati not covering
Cincinnati is coming off a 64-60 win at Connecticut this past weekend. The Bearcats have won three straight, but have failed to cover the spread in four straight. Cincy is 23-4 on the season, 12-2 in the AAC, 6-3 on the road, 12-15 against the spread and 14-13 with the under.
The Bearcats are one of the top defensive teams in the country, allowing just 61.5 points per game while holding opponents to 40.4 percent shooting. Offensively, Cincinnati is putting up 73.1 points per game while shooting 44.3 percent. Jarron Cumberland is leading the team with 18.6 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. Keith Williams is adding 11.0 points per contest.
SMU looking for momentum
The Mustangs are coming off a 95-48 loss at Central Florida on the road this weekend. SMU has now lost eight of its last 10 while going 2-7-1 against the spread. SMU is 13-13 on the season, 5-9 in the AAC, 10-6 at home, 9-16-1 against the spread and 15-11 with the over.
SMU is averaging 72.9 points per game on offense this season while shooting just 43.8 percent as a team. Defensively, the Mustangs are giving up 70.1 points per game while holding opponents to 43.5 percent shooting. Jahmal McMurray is leading the team with 17.6 points per game while three others are averaging just over 12 points per game.
College Basketball Betting Trends
The Bearcats are 5-1 against the spread in their last six Wednesday games and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a failed cover.
The Mustangs are 1-4 against the spread in their last five home games and 1-4 ATS in their last five conference games.
Cincinnati got a scare from SMU earlier this season, picking up a 73-68 win at home on Feb. 2. The Mustangs have actually covered in five of their last seven against the Bearcats. However, Cincy has won four straight and faces a small spread today. The Bearcats have a defense that will keep SMU from scoring much. Nobody has put up more than 68 against Cincinnati in their last nine games. SMU’s defense is suspect, so Cincinnati should see a slight boost in scoring, which should help the Bearcats score.
