Sooners hold on against Longhorns

Oklahoma earned a 69-67 home victory Saturday over Texas as Jamal Bienemy blocked a potential game-tying shot at the buzzer. The Sooners (17-10, 5-9 Big 12 Conference) led 42-28 at halftime and held off a Longhorns rally attempt after the break. Oklahoma shot 28-of-58 from the field, 6-of-14 from 3-point distance and 7-of-12 at the charity stripe. Christian James led the Sooners with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting including 4-of-8 from 3-point range plus 1-of-1 at the free throw line. He also pulled down eight rebounds. Kristian Doolittle accounted for 15 points and seven boards. Brady Manek added 12 points and five caroms.

Cyclones fall at Horned Frogs

Iowa State lost by a count of 75-72 at Texas Christian Saturday to drop to 19-8 overall and 8-6 in conference action. The Cyclones trailed 36-26 at halftime and were unable to rally all the way back. Michael Jacobson paced ISU with 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-3 at the free throw line. He also contributed seven rebounds and two steals. Lindell Wigginton tallied 15 points, two boards and two blocked shots off the bench. Talen Horton-Tucker tallied 14 points plus nine caroms and five steals. Cameron Lard added 10 points and six rebounds. Iowa State shot 31-of-69 from the floor, 2-of-20 on 3-point attempts and 8-of-11 at the free throw line.

Prediction:

Iowa State has struggled lately and also only defeated the Sooners 75-74 on the road back on Feb. 4. This spread seems just a bit too wide, especially considering Oklahoma has looked better in winning its last two games. The Sooners are stout defensively and I see them staying in this one long enough to cover the spread.
