Red Storm falter down stretch

St. John's gave up the final eight points of the game Monday night at home in a 77-74 loss to Xavier to drop to 14-12 overall and 3-10 in the Big East Conference. Rasheem Dunn paced St. John's with 17 points on 5-of-12 shooting including 1-of-4 from 3-point distance plus 6-of-9 at the free throw line. He also recorded three assists, two rebounds and two steals. Marcellus Earlington accounted for 17 points, eight boards, two assists and two steals off the bench. Nick Rutherford contributed 16 points, seven dimes, five rebounds and three steals as a reserve. Julian Champagnie added 11 points and five caroms.

Mamukelashvili wins it at buzzer

Sandro Mamukelashvili drained an off-balance shot in the lane at the buzzer Wednesday night to lift Seton Hall to a 74-72 home victory over Butler. The Pirates (19-7, 11-3 Big East) outscored the Bulldogs 46-38 in the second half after trailing by six at the break. Quincy McKnight helped lead Seton Hall with 18 points on 3-of-7 shooting including 2-of-2 from 3-point range plus 10-of-11 at the charity stripe. He also notched three assists and two rebounds. Myles Powell tallied 16 points, six boards, five assists and two steals. Mamukelashvili contributed 15 points and six caroms. Romeo Gill added 15 points and seven rebounds.

College Basketball Betting Trends

St. John's

The underdog is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings. The road team is 8-21 ATS in the last 29 meetings.

Seton Hall

The Pirates are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings. Three of the last five meetings have gone under the total.

Prediction:

Seton Hall has not beaten a team by as many points as this spread suggests since January 11 and its win at the Red Storm was a tight 82-79 contest last month. I'd rather take a shot on a St. John's squad to keep it close as it showed a lot of fight the last two games and will be salty after letting the game against Xavier slip away in the closing minutes. Seton Hall finishes the Big East schedule with tough games versus Marquette, Villanova and Creighton so it might be looking past this challenge.
