Flyers win 14th straight
Dayton earned a 71-63 victory Saturday at Massachusetts to improve to 23-2 overall and 12-0 in conference action. The Flyers led 31-26 at halftime and did not relent after the break. Obi Toppin paced Dayton with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting including 1-of-2 from 3-point distance plus 2-of-4 at the free throw line. He also pulled down seven rebounds. Jalen Cutcher added 17 points, five assists and four boards.
Rams falter at Spiders
Virginia Commonwealth lost by a score of 77-59 Saturday at Richmond to drop to 17-8 overall and 7-5 in the Atlantic 10. The Rams were outscored 42-24 in the first half and were unable to recover. Marcus Santos-Silva paced VCU with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting plus 2-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also racked up 12 rebounds, three steals and two assists. Issac Vann added 10 points, three dimes, three steals and two boards.
College Basketball Betting Trends
Dayton
The Flyers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games. The favorite is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings.
VCU
The Rams are 19-7 ATS in their last 26 Tuesday games. Virginia Commonwealth is 3-10 ATS in its last 13 games as a home underdog.
Prediction:
The Rams have dropped three of their last four games including a 72-67 setback against a subpar George Mason squad. For my money, tonight's spread just seems a bit too thin. The Flyers downed VCU 79-65 on their court last month and while their win over the weekend was not exactly dominant, they should rise to the occasion against a better yet slumping opponent. Dayton has the motivation of a perfect Atlantic 10 regular season plus a possible No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Don't expect a letdown anytime soon.
