Wildcats outlast Bluejays in OT

Villanova downed visiting Creighton 66-59 in overtime Wednesday night for its 11th straight win and 10th in Big East play. The Wildcats (19-4, 10-0) were outscored 25-24 in the second half, but outscored the Bluejays 17-10 in overtime to post the win. Villanova shot 21-of-56 from the floor, 10-of-34 from 3-point distance and 14-of-22 from the free throw line. Saddiq Bey paced the Wildcats with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting including 3-of-8 from 3-point range plus 2-of-4 at the free throw line. He also notched five rebounds and three steals. Eric Paschall contributed 15 points, seven rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots. Phil Booth had 14 points, eight rebounds and four dimes. Collin Gillespie added 13 points and six assists.

Golden Eagles fall late to Red Storm

Marquette surrendered the go-ahead layup with 15 seconds remaining Tuesday night in a 70-69 home loss to St. John's. The Golden Eagles rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit by outscoring the Red Storm 39-30 in the second half, but were unable to close it out. Marquette shot 22-of-54 from the floor, 8-of-26 from 3-point distance and 17-of-25 from the free throw line. Sam Hauser paced the Golden Eagles with 19 points on 6-of-16 shooting including 3-of-12 from 3-point range plus 4-of-4 at the charity stripe. He also recorded 11 rebounds and three assists. Markus Howard tallied 17 points plus five rebounds and five assists. Sacar Anim added 11 points and four rebounds.

This is going to be a great game and I think both teams were probably caught looking ahead with poor performances last time out. With Villanova unscathed in Big East play so far, I think it remains unbeaten today. Marquette is a good team, but has shown some flaws and areas when it can be attacked. Villanova has a well-rounded squad and has received a huge boost from Bey over the last several weeks. I love the Wildcats in this spot.
