Kunc sat out injured from Dec. 31 to Jan. 30, so it is unsurprising that he seemed limited during his first game of 2023. The question is how Iowa State will use him. Kunc was a regular part of the Cyclones' starting frontcourt before Gabe Kalscheur replaced him. However, Kalscheur's point average is 16.7 across his fifth year. It will not be easy to select what role Kunc gets in between February and April, if they even go that far.

The senior guard had taken a very moderate 3.3 field-goal attempts per contest over the previous three games, but he reprised his usual scoring role Saturday by logging almost his exact average for field-goal attempts per game (6.7). Johnson has also averaged 5.1 free-throw attempts per game while shooting 83.2 percent from the charity stripe, which provides a solid floor to his largely consistent scoring average this season (10.1).
