Terrapins win fifth straight

Maryland downed visiting Rutgers Tuesday night by a score of 56-51 to improve to 18-4 overall and 8-3 in Big Ten Conference play. The Terrapins outscored the Scarlet Knights 36-26 in the second half after trailing by five at halftime. Anthony Cowan Jr. led Maryland with 17 points on 3-of-9 shooting including 3-of-5 from 3-point distance plus 8-of-9 at the free throw line. He also tallied four rebounds and three assists. Jalen Smith accounted for 14 points, 15 boards and six blocked shots. Darryl Morsell added 14 points and six caroms.

Fighting Illini falter on road

Illinois was stopped on the road Sunday at Iowa as it fell by a score of 72-65 to drop to 16-6 overall and 8-3 in conference action. The Fighting Illini were outscored 42-34 in the second half after leading by one at the break. Andres Feliz paced Illinois with 17 points off the bench on 6-of-11 shooting including 2-of-4 from 3-point range plus 3-of-3 at the charity stripe. He also contributed four rebounds and two steals. Trent Frazier recorded 12 points, three boards, three steals and two assists. Ayo Dosunmu added 11 points and three dimes.

The Fighting Illini finally met their match at Iowa following a seven-game winning streak and now have another very tough matchup tonight at home versus Maryland. After the Terrapins struggled earlier this season on the road, they have won at Northwestern and Indiana as part of their five-game winning streak. Maryland gets after it defensively and were playing dynamic offense until running into an elite defense versus Rutgers. I'm taking the underdogs to get the job done tonight.
