MSU vs. Michigan Pick
Two rivals that need to strengthen their NCAA Tournament resumes meet up tonight as Michigan hosts Michigan State at 9PM ET.
According to oddsmakers at BetDSI, Michigan is the favorite at home, as the Wolverines are getting odds of -5 points against the Spartans. The over/under total for the game is listed at 135.5 points. Michigan State won the first meeting on Jan. 29 in East Lansing, 70-62. The Spartans have won and covered the spread in three straight meetings with Michigan.
Michigan State has won back-to-back games coming into today to get to 14-9 overall and 6-4 in the Big Ten. The Spartans are just 10-12 against the spread on the season, but 4-1 ATS on the road. MSU is averaging 72.1 points per game on the season while allowing 67.9 on defense. When on the road, MSU gives up 73.4 points per game. Miles Bridges is leading the team with 16.3 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Nick Ward is adding 13 points and 6 rebounds per contest.
Michigan has lost two straight, including a 70-66 loss at home to Ohio State this weekend. The Wolverines are 14-9 overall and 4-6 in the Big Ten. They are 12-8 against the spread, including a 9-3 mark at home against the spread. U-M averages 74 points per game on offense while allowing just 66 on defense. At home, the Wolverines have held opponents to 62 points per game. Derrick Walton Jr. is leading the team with 14 points and 4.7 rebounds per game while Zak Irvin is adding 13.3 points and 4.6 boards per contest.
Michigan is a streaky team. The Wolverines can come out on fire and put up 90 on Indiana, or shoot poorly and lose to Ohio State. The Spartans have the talent to make a run, but it’s young talent that has struggled under the strict guidance of Tom Izzo. Still, I expect MSU to figure it out in time for a good run in March. That would include a win today. I think Nick Ward will be a tough matchup for Michigan to deal with. If Ward can stay out of foul trouble, he and Bridges should lead the Spartans to a win and cover.
